Job well done to authors Jennifer Greene and Andrew Stellman on creating another wonderful Head First reference, this time for PMP prep. I was dreading ordering the new PMBOK because of how poor the reviews were for formatting alone and it dawned on me that there might be a better alternative. Enter Head First PMP. I loved the format so much I gifted my copy to a colleague who is taking a PMP prep course and am ordering another for myself! Highly recommend this book to those who want a more "brain friendly" approach to PMP prep!
If you find Rita's book or others too dry, then this book is for you.If you have a reading disability, then the Kindle version of this book with a Kindle Fire is the only option that will read to you while following along in the paperback version. This is the only way that I will be able to learn the PMBOK enough to pass the PMP exam.Besides the above points, the 4th edition Head First PMP book is well evolved and will get the job done.
This version is not as good as the previous version and for being delayed so long it seems like it was rushed to print. For example, the author's write "According to the PMBOK Guide ninety percent of project management is communication." What the PMBOK Guide actually says "Project Managers spend most of their time communicating..." (pg 361). There is a big distinction in my mind between 90% (to me that equals virtually all) and most.Another example is on pg 500 where they say there are five kinds of power; legitimate, reward, expert, referent...That's four by my way of counting. I believe the fifth is coercive.There's an exercise on pg 55 that asks you to "figure out the constraint that's causing the biggest headache for the project manager..." but the exercise answers are all expecting the constraint affected. There is a difference between cause and what's being affected.I enjoyed the previous edition of this book, but this one has so many little errors and contradictions that I find myself consulting the PMBOK Guide a lot to make sure I'm getting the right information.
Looks like the processess were indeed updated to match the 6th version of PMBOK but the chapters are still the old chapters e.g. resource management is still called Human resource management. Would be nice if someone could concur/commenf
I love this book and I will use it to prepare for the exam. However, I didn't like how it looks on the kindle app on my PC. The app is very limited (no zoom for example) and also does not display well on my Surface Pro 4.Also, the book layout is different from the printed and the PDF books. it is really bad and messyI wish I had went for the hard copy or bought the PDF on eBooks.com or something
I have purchased both the third and fourth editions of this book in the last five or so years, and both proved indispensable for passing the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) exam. While that exam is far less comprehensive than the full PMP exam, this book covers the same practices and content. The visual approach was perfect for my learning style.
I am at the beginning of pursuing PMP Certification. The online course I'm taking for my 35 contact hours recommended reading an exam prep book before starting the online course. I'm glad I chose this one. It's not a dry read at all. It's very engaging and there's a variety of exercises and quiz styles to help you test your learning. My favorite were the end of chapter crossword puzzles. This book will keep you engaged and teach you a TON!
I'm not sure I like the concept. I guess I understand the structure and teaching/learning approach of a textbook and this book is definitely not like that. I just started thumbing through the book, therefore, I do not have a strong opinion either way. The book itself is low quality. The print on every page, including the cover is skewed at 10 degrees. I doubt this was done on purpose.
