My 9 month old son LOVES this book. I wish it included the brush like in the movie, but it's definitely understandable why it doesn't as it would be a choking hazard. The puppets are sturdy and I think it will last for a long time, so long as my baby doesn't try to chew on it!
Just like many other reviewers have stated, this book isn't exactly the same as the one in the movie. The brush doesn't exist in this book and the finger puppets are not soft enough to to brush. However, I have a young daughter who is very rough on her books and toys, so the finger puppets being more durable is a plus for us. The illustrations are not as clear or as nice as the ones in the movie, but they look very similar to the ones in the film. I ordered the book as a hard board book and it is very similarly made to other board books that I have purchased. My husband wears a size nine or ten on his ring finger and the size and placement of the finger puppets make it very difficult for him to use them. I wear a size six and a half to a seven on my ring finger and these finger puppets are fairly snug on me. We have only had the book a couple of days, so if the book doesn't last well, I will update my review.
I purchased this book when my daughter was about 5 weeks old and she is now almost 7 years old. Something about her as a newborn reminded me of a kitten, so I had searched for baby books about kittens. I had not yet seen the movie when I bought it, so that was not important. We never really used the puppets, so that wasn't important to us, either. I memorized the book early on and it was one of two that I could remember when I was in a sleep-deprived state and needed to tell her a bedtime story. She loved the book so much that we still call her a sleepy kitten when she is tired. Last night, we were talking about giving some of her baby books away and she said "not Sleepy Kittens! It is so special to me and I am keeping it forever!"
i buy this book for my daughter birthday and she love it it's not the original like the movie whit the brush and the tree holes but it's ok and my fingers don't fit really well in the kittens but HELLO is for kids not for adults hahahaha anyway my daughter love it :)
My daughter loves Despicable Me so I decided to get this book for her birthday. She loves it when I pull this book out to read to her. As many other reviewers said, the kittens in the book are not fluffy like the kittens in the book in the movie. They are made of stiff felt and it's a little difficult to move them around. There is also no brush, but I'm sure you read that in other reviews as well. Overall, the story is the same as the story in the movie. I'm sure it was too difficult to produce the book exactly as it is in the movie, so we will have to live with this version which is not bad at all. My daughter hasn't pointed out the differences and we just use one of her small toy brushes to get the full effect.
I just accidentally reviewed deadpool instead of this book so that'll be a weird review for that movie, I'm only 28 and have suddenly forgotten how to Internet. Anyways this book doesn't have the brush so 4/5. I also didn't realize the cardboard inside the finger puppets is intended to be removed so I broke the cardboard at first and got mad. This is a book for my son's 2nd bday, I think he'll like it but I really bought it for myself.
Yes it's true it's no exactly like the book in the movie. There is no holes for the kittens or a brush. My suggestion is if you have to have a brush to make this book more "movie like" use a baby brush. Having said that I think it was a pretty good rendition on the movie's book. My daughter loves it and it is super cute. The kittens are made of felt but still look pretty adorable. The moment I handed the book over to her she was so excited! It's a great tie in to the movie and I hope they make a version of the book Gru made.
We love Despicable Me (and cats) so much that we had to have the book that Gru reads in the movie!! Its a little different than in the movie though.. You don't stick your fingers through the book like in the movie - there are felt cats at the top for your fingers that take a little bending to break them in. There isn't a little brush that goes along with the book like the movie but that's nothing that your imagination can't handle. Such a cute book and we love it just as much as the three little girls in the movie did. I'd highly recommend this book!
