About the Author
John Suchet presents Classic FM's flagship morning program in England. Before turning to classical music, John was one of the England’s most respected television journalists. As a reporter he covered world events, including the Iran revolution, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan and the Philippines revolution. John has been honored for both roles. In 1986 he was voted Television Journalist of the Year, in 1996 Television Newscaster of the Year, and in 2008 the Royal Television Society awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award. The Royal Academy of Music has awarded him an Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his work on Beethoven, having written six books on the composer, including the highly acclaimed Beethoven: The Man Revealed. His bestselling biography of the Strauss family, The Last Waltz: The Strauss Dynasty and Vienna, was published in 2015.

I have learned from and enjoyed this biography more than I will ever be able to convey here. I confess, that when it arrived it seemed so slick in its presentation I feared the contents would be superficial. But I couldn't have been more wrong. Yes, it is shiny paper with many beautiful illustrations. But the illustrations contribute a great deal and even include a painting believed to be of Mozart that was discovered in 2008. But two things set it apart from all the other reading I have done on Mozart. First, Suchet's writing is so personable that one forgets it is a "composer biography." Indeed, I see in the acknowledgements that he had resisted writing yet another biography of Mozart until his editor convinced him of the need for one in an "accessible and readable style". Well, he certainly achieved exactly that. And, second, while he never loses sight of the music, he keeps analysis of it at a minimum while seamlessly weaving into the narration just the works that are applicable to the composer's life story and the book's perfect title: "Mozart, the man revealed." For with a profound grasp of his subject and scrupulous attention to detail Suchet has quietly revealed "Mozart, the man" with a fullness I don't believe has ever been achieved. Highly recommended!
While there are Mozart biographies out there that have more detail (than the average reader needs) and more musicological analysis (than the average listener needs or wants), this is the finest, best written, and most enjoyable biography of Mozart I have ever read. It is clearly written by someone who has digested all that we know about Mozart and delivered areal meat and bones portrait of him Very enjoyable and highly recommended.
Disappointing. Reads more like a travelogue than a biography. Got more insight into Mozart's father than Mozart. Didn't care for the writing style. Most paragraphs were 6 or 7 lines long - which makes for choppy reading. Printed on high-quality paper. Lots of great illustrations and photos..
I have read many Mozart biographies, but this one really gave me a good idea about the man himself. I just loved the book and could hardly put it down. John Suchet knows his subject and I can't wait for his Strauss and Verdi biographies to appear on Kindle.....
i LOVED it! I thoroughly felt like I accompanied Wolfgang on his tours in Europe! I really enjoyed this one of John Shuchet's book about Mozart as much as I enjoyed his book about Beethoven! Both are absolutely superb works! Very FUN to read!
This was a wonderful, comprehensive biography with a beautiful cover. Lots of pictures and just enough narrative to make it read like a real story and not a textbook.
Enjoyed learning about mozart the man and how he interacted with those around him. I would have loved to learn more about how his life came through his music.
This book is very readable and filled with information about Amadeus Mozart and his family and people instrumental to his personal life and his work.
